The first thing worth deciding is whether you actually want Wi-Fi. A keypad deadbolt with no connection is simpler, cheaper, and has fewer things to go wrong, and for most households it does everything they need. Wi-Fi earns its place when you genuinely want remote access, notifications, or the ability to let someone in while you are not there. Plenty of people pay for connectivity they never use.
The second is environment. Coastal Broward is hard on hardware, and it is harder still on electronics. A lock on an exposed door facing salt air needs to be rated for it, and cheap units fail fast in that setting. Gate keypads take the worst of it — sun, rain and salt with no shelter at all — and choosing properly there is the difference between a few years of service and a replacement next season.
Batteries are the practical detail nobody mentions at the point of sale. Almost every residential smart lock runs on its own batteries, which means a power cut does not lock you out, but a flat battery eventually will. Change them on a schedule rather than waiting for the warning, and know where the physical override key is before you need it.
We install, program and hand over. That means codes set up the way you want them, the app working on your phone, you shown how to add and delete a code yourself, and the override key accounted for. A smart lock nobody knows how to use is just an expensive deadbolt.

What people ask before going keyless.
Do smart locks work if the power goes out?
Yes. Residential smart locks run on their own batteries, so a power cut does not affect the lock. What stops working is anything that depends on your internet, like remote unlocking from an app.
Do I need Wi-Fi?
Not necessarily. A keypad deadbolt with no connection is cheaper and simpler and suits most homes. Wi-Fi is worth it if you want remote access or notifications.
What happens when the batteries die?
You get low-battery warnings well in advance. Every lock we install also has a physical override key, and we make sure you know where it is before we leave.
Can I give someone a temporary code?
Yes, on most models. That is the main reason people switch — a cleaner or contractor gets their own code that you delete when the job is done.
Will you set it up on my phone?
Yes, that is part of the job. The lock is programmed, the app is working, and we show you how to add and remove codes yourself before we finish.
Are keypad locks secure?
A good one is at least as secure as a quality mechanical deadbolt, and it removes the risk of copied or hidden keys. The grade of hardware matters more than whether it has a keypad.
