The single biggest thing that separates a good residential lockout from a bad one is whether the locksmith reaches for picks or a drill. On a normal deadbolt, picking takes a few minutes and costs you nothing beyond the service. Drilling destroys the cylinder and turns a lockout into a lock replacement, which is exactly why some operators go straight for it.
Broward housing makes for a wide range of jobs. A Fort Lauderdale high-rise unit, a Hollywood bungalow, a Coral Springs house in a master-planned development and a Plantation condo all have different hardware and different rules. Condo and HOA buildings often specify what can go on a unit door, and common-area doors are association property, so we work within those rules rather than around them.
Coastal humidity and salt air are the other factor. Anything near the Intracoastal or the beach corrodes faster than inland hardware, and a cylinder that has been seizing up for months often fails on the day you are already in a hurry. If your key has been getting harder to turn, that is the lock warning you.
If you are locked out and there is a child or a pet inside, or something on the stove, say so immediately when you call. That changes how we prioritise the job, and in a genuine emergency you should call 911 first.
